It is widely acknowledged that a child’s language and communication skills are the foundation for all learning and are essential for children to thrive and flourish in life. In Holy Family Junior School, we are dedicated to teaching these skills to our pupils, using best practice methodologies. These skills permeate every part of their school life and to ensure that our pupils have the best start possible, we have introduced our Oral Language Stations initiative for Junior and Senior Infants.
The class teacher is supported by the teachers on our support team who meet regularly and plan lessons that are thematic and are differentiated to suit the needs of each group. All learning outcomes are based on the Oral Language section of the Primary Language Curriculum.
The infant class is divided into small groups of approximately six pupils where they engage in multisensory and interactive learning activities. The groups work for 12 minutes on each activity on a rotational basis. Ongoing monitoring has shown that the children make rapid progress and more importantly they have lots of fun too!!
