The Active School Flag is an initiative of the Department of Education and Skills supported by Healthy Ireland. The Active School Flag is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. Having been awarded our first Active School Flag in 2017, we are now in the renewal process.
P.E. classes are timetabled every week throughout the school year. Coaches and trainers visit the school regularly and help to develop the pupils’ football and hurling skills. All pupils participate in Active School Week. The whole school community enjoys Sports’ Day. Working in partnership with our parents, school and sporting communities in Ennis, we are proud to be a very Active School.
Kick, run, hurl, hop, skip, jump, and never stop!

Sport in Holy Family School
Sport plays a very important role in the daily life of Holy Family School. Pupils’ participation in sport, with guidance from staff and coaches, is encouraged at various levels.
Through participation, fun, enjoyment, winning and losing, pupils develop physically, socially and emotionally. The exposure to a wide variety of sports, proficient teaching and development of skills will assist pupils in sport throughout their lives.
We follow the NCCA curriculum for Physical Education, as well as working with our local GAA coaches who come to our school to teach hurling and football skills. When our pupils move on to our Senior School in second class, they will also have the opportunity to participate in badminton, athletics, rugby, hurling and football.
